The Domain of Social Connectivity

Social Connectivity and Health

Various aspects of social functioning have been shown to influence our psychological and physical well-being. For instance, early landmark studies revealed that individuals with larger social networks tend to live longer than those with smaller ones. Subsequent research has consistently highlighted that it is the quality of our social relationships that most impacts our physical health.

At the negative end of this spectrum, loneliness—the emotional experience of feeling disconnected or lacking meaningful social connections—is a major risk factor for declining physical health and loss of vitality.
